Job Description

The Senior Plant Accountant plays a key role in driving financial discipline and cost transparency across manufacturing operations. Reporting to the Regional Controller, this position partners closely with plant leadership to ensure accurate product costing, reliable inventory data, and timely financial insights that support profitability and operational decision-making.

This role requires deep manufacturing accounting experience, a strong understanding of inventory behavior, and the ability to challenge assumptions in a fast-paced plant environment. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, resilient, and comfortable working cross-functionally to improve cost control and financial outcomes.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid schedule — three days onsite (Tuesday and Wednesday required), two days remote

Travel: Out of state travel four times per year (approximately four days each trip)


Responsibilities for the Senior Plant Accountant include:

 

Plant Financial Support & Cost Leadership

  • Serve as a trusted finance partner to plant and operations leadership, supporting informed decision-making around inventory levels, manufacturing strategies, and operational spending.
  • Own manufacturing variance analysis across all production sites, identifying cost drivers and deviations from plan.
  • Analyze cost impacts and margin implications to support profitability.
  • Monitor and report on plant performance against budgeted gross profit targets.

Costing, Inventory, and Asset Controls

  • Support standard costing activities across all plants, including new product introductions, innovation initiatives, and Pro-Track updates.
  • Maintain financial oversight of inventory, fixed assets, contracts, and supply-related expenses throughout manufacturing and distribution locations.
  • Review plant transactions to ensure adherence to accounting standards and internal policies.
  • Lead the cycle count program across all sites and distribution centers, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Stay closely connected to how inventory is consumed within production processes and reflected in finished goods costing.
  • Drive continuous improvement in plant accounting processes and supporting systems.

Forecasting, Budgeting, and Planning Support

  • Support accurate and timely forecasting of cost of goods sold and production volumes, including monthly outlooks and quarterly updates.
  • Assist in the preparation of plant budgets, providing analysis and recommendations for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
  • Partner with Operations and Finance to enhance budget processes and align plant planning with the 18-month Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) cycle.

Transformation & Cost Reduction Initiatives

  • Support financial analysis for Pro-Track and Tariff initiatives, ensuring savings estimates and realized results are accurately measured.
  • Assist in preparing next-year Pro-Track initiatives and ensure alignment by mid-year.
  • Own and partner with Operations to maintain and update Bills of Material (BOMs) and routings to ensure cost accuracy.
  • Evaluate cost structures and identify opportunities to drive costs out of the manufacturing process.

Performance Measures:

  • Timely and accurate delivery of Pro-Track and Tariff project financial estimates

Drive plant-level financial performance through variance analysis and cost insights

  • Manage inventory accounting, including reconciliation, cycle counts, and accuracy across sites
  • Support and enhance standard costing processes across manufacturing operations
  • Partner with operations to improve inventory controls and production reporting
  • Contribute to forecasting, budgeting, and cost of goods sold (COGS) analysis
  • Ensure audit-ready financials across inventory, assets, and expenses
  • Leverage SAP to improve reporting accuracy and streamline processes

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing accounting or plant accounting required
  • Strong understanding of inventory accounting, standard costing, and manufacturing variance analysis required
  • Solid experience with journal entries, reconciliations, and disciplined close processes required
  • ERP system experience required (SAP preferred).
  • Proven ability to maintain audit-ready documentation.
  • Willingness to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
