Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and innovative Packaging Design & Testing Engineer to join a growing engineering team in Lancaster, PA. This role is responsible for developing packaging concepts, validating package performance through testing, and supporting packaging solutions for both new and existing products. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical design abilities, packaging materials knowledge, and hands-on testing experience in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities of the Packaging Design & Testing Engineer

• Design and develop packaging solutions using corrugated materials, paperboard, molded fiber, plastics, films, and related materials
• Create and maintain detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings and technical specifications
• Conduct packaging performance testing and interpret laboratory results
• Utilize ISTA and customer testing standards to validate packaging integrity
• Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, marketing, and suppliers throughout the product lifecycle
• Develop prototypes and coordinate sample builds for testing and evaluation
• Prepare bills of materials, technical documentation, and cost analysis reports
• Support packaging improvements for existing products and new product launches
• Research new packaging technologies, materials, and market trends
• Assist with supplier communication, packaging sourcing, and trade show participation
• Ensure packaging designs align with manufacturing capabilities and operational efficiencies

Requirements of the Packaging Design & Testing Engineer

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Packaging Engineering or related engineering discipline
• 5+ years of packaging engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
• Strong experience with packaging lab testing and test standard interpretation
• Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD software
• Knowledge of packaging materials including corrugate, paperboard, molded pulp, plastics, films, and closures
• Understanding of packaging manufacturing processes and production environments
• Experience developing BOMs, reviewing quotes, and supporting cost analysis
• Strong Microsoft Office skills
• Ability to obtain ISTA CPLP certification within 90 days (company sponsored)
• Strong communication, organization, and project management skills
